Trip To The Moon and The Extraordinary Voyage WINNER! 2011 National Society of Film Critics’ "Best Film Restoration" Award!
A TRIP TO THE MOON / 110th Anniversary Restoration, featuring an all-new music score by AIR! Presented with its fully-restored original colors (painstakingly hand-painted onto the film itself!), and featuring a new, kinetic soundtrack by the rock band AIR, Georges Méliès’ classic 1902 outer space adventure tale is back on the big screen and more beautiful and mind-blowing than ever. In this landmark film, the first science fiction movie ever made, six members of The Astronomers' Club undertake an expedition to the moon (leaving Earth in a rocket fired from a giant cannon), encounter strange moon-residents called The Selenites, and narrowly escape before returning home for a triumphant parade. THE EXTRAORDINARY VOYAGE With the success of Martin Scorsese's Hugo, French film pioneer Georges Méliès (1861-1938; portrayed by Ben Kingsley in Hugo) is once again a household name. This extraordinary new documentary from Serge Bromberg and Eric Lange charts Bromberg’s discovery of a hand-tinted color nitrate print of Méliès masterpiece A Trip to the Moon in Barcelona, and the ensuing challenges posed by one of the most complex film restorations in cinema history. Interviews with acclaimed filmmakers Costa-Gavras (Z), Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie), Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) and Martin Scorsese reveal Méliès' enduring influence on modern cinema, with charming excerpts from Tom Hanks' From the Earth to the Moon paying homage to Méliès' startling vision of space travel. "The gorgeous restoration of Georges Méliès' masterpiece 'A Trip to the Moon' ... was surely a cinematic highlight of the year, maybe the century." - A.O. Scott, New York Times This program has not been rated for content. Contains nothing objectionable

US & UK 2011 / Drama / Directed by Terrence Davies Master chronicler of post-War England, Terence Davies (The Long Day Closes, The House of Mirth) directs Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz as a woman whose overpowering love threatens her well-being and alienates the men in her life. In a deeply vulnerable performance, Weisz plays Hester Collyer, the wife of an upper-class judge (Simon Russell Beale), and a free spirit trapped in a passionless marriage in early 1950s Britain. Her encounter with Freddie Page (Tom Hiddleston), a troubled former Royal Air Force pilot, throws her life in turmoil, as their erotic relationship leaves her emotionally stranded and physically isolated. The Deep Blue Sea is an adaptation of British playwright Terence Rattigan’s famous 1952 play (which also became a 1955 feature film starring Vivien Leigh), featuring one of the greatest roles for an actress in modern theatre.
"The movie is a museum of emotions, brought to contemporary life through the director's artistry and his leading lady's fire." - Richard Corliss, Time Rated R - Restricted: Persons under 17 must be accompanied by a legal age adult. Rated for a scene of sexuality and nudity
