Presented as part of April - Autism Awareness Month
Lara Stolman’s award-winning documentary film profiles the rise of the Jersey Hammerheads, a competitive swim team made up of a diverse group of teens on the autism spectrum. Following three teammates on the cusp of adulthood, when government services become scarce, Swim Team is a portrait of diverse American families grappling with the problem of "aging out." Over the course of a year, Swim Team explores the overwhelming struggles they face and the triumphs they achieve as they strive for independence, inclusion and a life that feels winning.
Ultimately, Swim Team offers an inspiring look at the power of community to transcend disability and create hope for the future.
There will be a brief Q&A after the film with a representative from the Special Education Service Agency autism program.
