CHASING THE DRAGON: THE LIFE OF AN OPIATE ADDICT
Statistics show opioid overdoses are one of the leading causes of accidental death in the United States. Each day in America, 44 people die from a drug overdose. That's two people dying every hour. That’s more people than die in car accidents or in gun violence. Despite law enforcement trying to fight the problem, heroin has made a resurgence among our youth. According to the CDC last year, one in five high school students have abused a prescription drug. The opioid and prescription drug abuse epidemic is sweeping the country, including here at home, impacting all segments of society. To help raise awareness of this epidemic and to help educate young people on the dangers of addiction, the FBI and DEA have released the documentary Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict, a compilation of heart-wrenching first-person accounts by addicts and family members of addicts about their experiences.
The movie will be followed by a panel of Law Enforcement & Health Care Professionals discussing the crisis and how to address it!
